Retreat RecapPosted by Tangie Henry on Monday, September 27, 2010
Friday afternoon the ladies began to arrive, many of them traveling long distances and in need of some inspiration. Frankly, I was a little battle-weary, myself, but it was a good feeling to see the vision finally become reality. After I welcomed them, LuJuana opened us up with her rendition of Jill Scott’s “Golden.” That loosened everyone up and we were READY! I discussed the purpose of the retreat and then we had a quick “Hey, Sistah!” meet-and-greet segment. The ladies had an opportunity to meet other ladies and find out what they hoped to get out of the retreat. Next, LuJuana made the debut of the Inspired Sistah Anthem, “Inspired,” and rocked it like only she could. That led us into the evening’s workshop entitled, “My Vision, My Worth.” The ladies were encouraged to develop “Vision Books” utilizing magazines, craft and scrapbooking materials. During this time, I went around and had intimate laser-coaching sessions with each of the ladies to encourage them on their journey. Afterwards, we adjourned for the evening, but not before (3) special sistahs were selected to share their vision with us the next morning. We started on Saturday with another welcome from me and LuJuana jamming, Mary J’s, “Just Fine.” Excited, we were eager to hear the ladies’ visions. Encouraged by them, we were ready for the next workshop, “It’s in the Bag.” Each lady received a “purse” filled with things you might normally find in a lady’s bag. The bag represented their “outer man” and the contents represented the “inner man.” They had to choose a few essential items and share with us what those items symbolized in their life. This was a great exercise because it gave them an opportunity to examine areas in their life that were already working and other areas that may need a little adjustment. One that stands out to me was Angela’s analogy that chewing gum represented a “nasty little habit!” Hmmm…. After lunch, LuJuana blessed us with her version of India.Arie’s “Beautiful Flower.” That led us into the “My Essence” workshop where the ladies had an opportunity to receive words of affirmation and strength from each other. I closed the retreat out with my keynote, “Possessing Your Worth,” where I shared some of my testimony and a few points on fully valuing themselves. We ended with LuJuana’s testimony and the Inspired Sistah Anthem, “Inspired.” Overall, the retreat was truly amazing! Testimonies are coming in. Ladies are inspired and encouraged to move forward with their purpose and are already talking about coming next year. I guess I better get to work! LOL! Already on it! Blessings,
